Kevin Durant Talks with Nike

I’m not sure if anyone is as excited about the upcoming NBA season as Oklahoma City Thunder star F Kevin Durant. After a rough, injury-ridden last season (2014-15 NBA Season) limited the reigning MVP to just 27 games, Durant is ready to get back out on the court. Without KD, OKC missed the playoffs and finished the season with just 45 wins and 37 losses.

The 2015-16 NBA Season represents a fresh slate for Durant and the Thunder. This fresh slate begins in just a few weeks from now. Nike spoke with Kevin Durant about his biggest fear, style, and the legacy he would like to leave behind when he’s all done on the court.

“My biggest fear…

…is that I might be taking it all for granted. Being able to do something I love every single day is a blessing. We play so many games, we have so many practices — it flies by. By the time it’s all said and done, I worry that I might not have really enjoyed every single day as a pro.”

“I want to consistently be…

…the best player on the floor every night. You can do it once or twice throughout a season, but I want to do it every single night. So I want to continue to keep working at it.”

“It’s a long season…

…It’s an emotional rollercoaster sometimes, and staying close to your teammates and just enjoying them outside of basketball is what’s most important. Having that camaraderie with your teammates on the plane, on the bus, in the hotel, going out to dinner — that helps.”

“I don’t want to say it’s a competition…

…but [professional basketball players] always want to look good. Guys aren’t comparing all the time, but I think everybody wants his own lane to stay in. So I just try to do my own thing and not worry about what other players have on. I just want to enjoy what I have on and feel good in it. And I’ve been doing that lately.”

“If I don’t like it, I don’t wear it…

…— no matter what design it is or who made it. I’m real simple with it. If it has a nice fit, I’ll wear it.”

“I’m most passionate about…

…helping the youth. I’m big on setting a good example for kids coming behind me, letting them know the value of work by leading by example and being vocal.”

“I want to be a Hall of Famer…

…have multiple championships and, most of all, I just want to leave my mark on the city. I want to inspire the youth and be remembered as one of those guys who impacted lives, on and off the court.”
